A great part of van life is that it encourages you to be a lot more intentional with everything you bring into your home and routine, because there simply isn’t the space to have things pile up. Often it’s items which are semi-useful, or almost do the job, but aren’t quite what you’re looking for, which end up accumulating in hidden draws.
Having been living in the van full time for over a year now, I know first hand what a great difference it makes when you have the equipment which effortlessly meets the requirements of your lifestyle, something that adapts to me rather than the other way round.
Curating these items is often a process of trial and error, ploughing through reviews, looking at star ratings and sometimes it can feel like running in circles. So, in the interest of efficiency and not wasting too much time, it’s good to go in with a rough criteria of what features you’re looking for, e.g. durability, function etc. and then rule out anything which doesn’t match up.
An everyday staple item for me are headphones, when I’m running, relaxing with an audio book or on the phone with friends and family, these are essential, so I was really pleased to discover that @jaybirdsport makes the cut, and as a Jaybird Partner I’m also incredibly excited to be able to share exactly why and how the latest technology Jaybird Sport has devised lives up to my expectations.
Jaybird have not only met all the criteria I was looking for, but with their new Vista 2 they have surpassed my original requirements. Specifically the SurroundSense for awareness, ANC for focus, whether that’s navigating through busy traffic running along a main road, or wanting to be able to hear what’s going on around me in order to be safe whilst out running, the SurroundSense lets me do this, then when I am enjoying some down time and want to plug into my book, I can turn this SurroundSense off and be fully immersed again in just the audio. Switching between the two modes is also very easy and quick, through just double tapping on the ear bud.
A further update is the Vista 2 providing 33% more battery life, totaling 8 hours with the buds on their own, and 24 hours when with the case. Running double marathon distances, this is the kind of battery life I really need to see me through the mileage.
In true adventure style, @jaybirdsport have also factored in unforeseen circumstances. Anything can happen, and it’s good to know the Vista 2 gets this and actually meets U.S. military MIL-STD 810G rugged compliant standards—passing repeated shock, vibration, drop and crush tests, as well as withstanding tropical humidity, hurricane-force water and desert sandstorm conditions. I’m not exactly planning to run in hurricane-force water, but it’s good to know that should I spontaneously decide to- I can’t use my headphones as an excuse not to.
And an added bonus? Puddles. I can drop my ear buds and knowing they can withstand an hour under water at 1 meter is extra peace of mind, in case I needed it.
What screams out is that Jaybird clearly are passionate adventurers themselves, because they have thought of everything I did. Being on the same page and pushing themselves with the technology, developing the Vista 2, whilst I continue to challenge myself too, it’s nice they can keep up!
