Day 40 – TREAT WEEK – Lets go skiing, again.
My Journey continues – I am just a few kilometers ahead of my planned running mileage so far and this week it’s treat week – another week skiing and slight rest bite for my running legs, but not for my ski legs.
I’ve been in the Alps for the past 2 days, altitude training again for my legs and a holiday skiing for me.
My training before coming out here was great, the London Winter Run was brilliant, plus I managed to get ahead of target by just over 40km, so this time I will avoid a huge kilometer deficit by the time I come home to normal training. The problem with a week of skiing will mean a deficit of around 50km plus tied and sore legs; so my 3000km challenge will be tough for another week.
I’ve been blessed with fantastic weather here in the French Alps, St Martin De Belleville is playing host to me for another 6 days. Courchevel was a great first day too – thanks Courchevel.
Long days and over 110km skiing in the first two days, a short evening run in the cold and a shed load of calories consumed and even more burnt.
If you’re a skier or not and haven’t visited La FOLIE DOUCE, you need too! The smell of champagne, hundreds of people dancing on tables, and the mountain lined with fellow ski bums, and a heap of good live music and DJ’s
My mini challenge this week is to visit every single ski lift in the Les 3 Vallees – 159 total. The first 2 days have totaled 101. I am well ahead. My legs will pay next week and I’m sure I’ll be complaining. Have a look at my top quality check list:
The best sun and the best snow – in my element
A short night run to keep my legs in check. This 3000km challenge is a long hard slog and I still have 325 days to go and over 2700km
Please remember why I’m spending long mornings and cold evenings running 3000km this year. I’m raising money for British Heart Foundation, VICTA, and Cancer Research. Although I’m having some fun in the snow this week – the remaining 2700km and the 325 day slog will show my efforts to raise money for these much needed charities.

I love how your ticking off the ski lifts – I used to try and tick off as many as I could and depending on mood ‘all the blues, all the reds’ in certain resorts etc. So much fun!!! 🙂

I ‘learnt’ (I’m still pretty hopeless/slow) in Chamonix and a week in Zermatt. Then last year I went to Alpe d’heuz which was lovely but some of the lifts where shut the whole time. Soooo mainly Chamonix, for example I’m pretty sure I’ve skied everything at Les Houches…but put me at the Grand Monets and I find it really tough so mainly..I drink coffee and eat cake. Have you skied in Cham?
